Register to Attend KNKX Studio Sessions

KNKX records and produces exclusive Studio Sessions every month with world-class jazz and blues musicians from around the world and the Northwest. We also like to use Studio Sessions as an opportunity to showcase the talented local students participating in our award-winning School of Jazz program.

Studio Sessions typically last around an hour, but the exact program will depend on the artist. You can usually expect about 15-45 minutes of sound check and mingling, followed by 20-30 minutes of recorded studio session time. This consists of 2 to 3 songs followed by an interview from one of our hosts.

We'd love for you to join us for a session in our new Seattle studios next to Pike Place Market. Below you will find more information about each upcoming Studio Session along with a link to register.

Studio Sessions are very popular and are free to attend.

Please register for only one per three months so others can enjoy the show!

Dominique Fils-Aimé
Tuesday, September 23, 1 p.m.

Hosted by Abe Beeson

We're pleased to host Montreal-based, two-time Juno Award-winning singer/songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimés in our studios. She places the history of African-American musical culture at the heart of her work, reflecting on the social realities that have influenced the genres of blues, jazz and soul.

Dominique's trilogy highlights the history of African-American music, inspired by soul icons such as Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Etta James. Her 2018 album, Nameless, which confronted historical silences and sorrows, led to two sold-out shows at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2018. Her second album, Stay Tuned! was a call for revolution and won the 2020 Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. In 2021, Dominique closed the final chapter of the trilogy with Three Little Words, a call for reconciliation. Her fourth album, Our Roots Run Deep, was released in 2023 and is the start of a new trilogy. It won the 2024 Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. Dominique released her first single in French, "Moi je t'aime" on June 6 and is currently writing new songs for her upcoming album slated for release in 2026. On stage, whether in Canada or in Europe (opening for Melody Gardot, Diana Krall, and Ibrahim Maalouf), Dominique Fils-Aimé's magnetic presence captivates the audience, leading them on a transcendent journey.

Dominique Fils-Aimé is performing September 23 and 24 at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.

Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto
Monday, October 13, 1 p.m.

Hosted by Abe Beeson

Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto, a master pianist, composer and arranger, is one of the most important Brazilian musicians working today. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, he has throughout his career been closely affiliated with the Brazilian master Hermeto Pascoal. He was an integral part of Pascoal's group from 1977 to1992, where he fine-tuned his artistry, performing around the world and co-producing several legendary records. Jovino’s personal style is a creative blend of energetic grooves, deep harmonies, telepathic improvisation, lyrical melodies and great ensemble playing, always inspired and informed by the colorful richness of Brazilian music. His compositions include samba, choro, baião, xote, forró, marcha and many more styles, rooted in centuries-old musical tradition while pointing to new and adventurous harmonic languages. Currently, Jovino leads his Seattle-based Quinteto and Trio. He taught piano and composition at Cornish College of the Arts for 26 years.
