KNKX records and produces exclusive Studio Sessions every month with world-class jazz and blues musicians from around the world and the Northwest. We also like to use Studio Sessions as an opportunity to showcase the talented local students participating in our award-winning School of Jazz program.
Studio Sessions typically last around an hour, but the exact program will depend on the artist. You can usually expect about 15-45 minutes of sound check and mingling, followed by 20-30 minutes of recorded studio session time. This consists of 2 to 3 songs followed by an interview from one of our hosts.
We'd love for you to join us for a session in our new Seattle studios next to Pike Place Market. Below you will find more information about each upcoming Studio Session along with a link to register.
Studio Sessions are very popular and are free to attend.
Please register for only one per three months so others can enjoy the show!
Alune Wade
Friday, October 24, 1:45 p.m.
Hosted by Abe Beeson
Senegalese bassist Alune Wade makes his Seattle debut at this year's Earshot Jazz Festival when he opens for Kassa Overall on October 25 at Hidden Hall. Alune's bass-driven Afro-jazz offers deep roots and worldly grooves. He blends jazz and Afrobeat, tracing the deep connections between West African rhythms, Lagos grooves, and the bold brass sounds of New Orleans. Alune was personally selected by Marcus Miller in 2015 to contribute to Miller's album "Afrodeezia" - a testament to his exceptional talent. However, his path to success began earlier when he was discovered by Ismaël Lô at the age of 18. Since then, he has collaborated with an impressive array of contemporary music legends and performed alongside artists such as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré, Bobby McFerrin, Joe Zawinul, Fatoumata Diawara, Paco Sery, Bela Fleck, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Deep Forest, and Gregory Porter. Apart from Alune's distinctive and vibrant electric bass playing, it is his voice that, much like the West African griots, tells stories with deep emotion and touching falsetto/tonality.
