KPLU's School of Jazz Studio Session in Vancouver, B.C.

Jun 26, 2015

It's School of Jazz, Canadian-style!  KPLU and Jazz24 host Abe Beeson recorded a studio session this morning at The Farm Studios in Vancouver, B.C. with the award-winning Point Grey Secondary School jazz band and their mentor, clarinetist James Danderfer, under the direction of Brent Taylor.

The studio session kicks off KPLU's (and Jazz24's) on-site activities at the 30th Annual Vancouver International Jazz Festival.  Next up, Abe will be taping an interview with the legendary jazz saxophonist Jimmy Heath tonight, then Saturday and Sunday, he'll be hanging out at the Jazz24 booth in David Lam Park.  Over the weekend, he's got interviews lined up with drummer Antonio Sanchez, trumpeter Dave Douglas, and Pink Martini's Thomas Lauderdale.  Abe will emcee the Pink Martini show at The Orpheum Theatre Saturday evening.  We'll post photos and highlights from Abe's interviews, so stay tuned.  For now, please enjoy the photos from this morning's School of Jazz studio session.  KPLU will air the studio session this fall.

Thanks so much to Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, The Farm Studios and Nimbus School of Recording & Media in Vancouver, B.C.  Students from Capilano University in North Vancouver filmed the studio session, which will be included in a documentary on Point Grey Secondary School.

P.S. Point Grey Secondary School has some famous former attendees, most notably, actor/writer/producer Seth Rogen.  The film Superbad was based on the experiences that Rogen and Evan Goldberg had at the school. The duo's production company, Point Grey Pictures, is named after it.
