Jazz Northwest: Old and new music from Vancouver, Portland and Seattle

The Jill Townsend Big Band from Vancouver, B.C., plays music by Ross Taggart; Dave Frishberg, John Gross and Charlie Doggett team up in Portland, and Randy Halberstadt and Chuck Deardorf have recent releases from Seattle on this week's episode of Jazz Northwest. 

This week's show also includes an excerpt from a live 1966 broadcast of the Jack Wilson Quartet from a Pioneer Square jazz club, The Penthouse. Our Best Bets for live jazz in the coming week is included as well as news of three jazz festivals coming in May — Lake Chelan, Ballard and Bellevue. 

On next week's show, highlights from a concert by The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra playing music by Dizzy Gillespie and others featuring guest drummer Ignacio Berroa, who was Dizzy Gillespie's last drummer.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
