Jazz Caliente: Mixing Blues and Latin with StringShot

Oct 31, 2019

StringShot is a collaboration between an American blues guitarist, a Brazilian guitar and vocal percussion specialist, and a Paraguayan violinist/harpist. They're coming to Seattle to perform at The Triple Door on Thursday, Nov. 7, presented by KNKX.

KNKX All Blues fans should be familiar with Roy Rogers. He's known as one of the world's greatest slide guitarists, and he's racked up eight Grammy nominations. Roy has been working the guitar since he was 12 years old, and has many musical collaborations under his belt, including touring with and producing albums for John Lee Hooker. He also tours regularly with his band the Delta Rhythm Kings.

Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad is a fearless innovator on guitar, and as a singer and percussionist. She comes from a musical family; her brothers Sergio and Odair are the well known classical guitar act Duo Assad, and Badi has often performed with them and with her nieces, Clarice and Carolina. Badi picked up the guitar and started winning music awards at age 14.

Carlos Reyes was born in Paraguay, and he's a master of the 36-string Paraguyan harp as well as violin.  Based in San Francisco, he's had a busy career touring the world to play all kinds of music.

StringShot blends blues, latin, world music and improvisation into a sound all their own.

This Saturday on Jazz Caliente, we'll hear "Blues for Brazil" from the StringShot "Blues and Latin" album.  I hope you can join me for their show at The Triple Door on Nov. 7.

Jazz Caliente airs Saturdays at 5 p.m. The show is hosted by Robin Lloyd and produced by KNKX Public Radio.
