If all the world's a stage, then local parks are perfect for a Shakespearean comedy

After more than a year of only virtual programs, another performing arts group is gearing up to welcome audiences back – outdoors.

Seattle Shakespeare is returning to parks in the region this weekend with “The Comedy of Errors."

Artistic director George Mount says the company had been planning to present the play last year, but it was put on hold due to the pandemic. He says it's the perfect fit for their first show back.

“The play itself is a play about reconnecting and finding yourself and finding your people,” Mount explains. “These twins have been separated for a decade-plus before they are accidentally reunited and discover a family that they always wished they could meet – knew that they had out there but never knew where they were. And the end of the play, the connections are reestablished, and that’s a lot of what I think is going on right now.”

Mount says Seattle Shakespeare is excited to bring artists and audiences together again.

The company will perform “The Comedy of Errors” in 10 parks in King and Pierce counties, starting Friday night at Riverton Heights Park in SeaTac. Admission is free.

The series will continue through Aug. 8. You can find the schedule here.
