Jazz Northwest: New releases by Greta Matassa and Larry Fuller

Greta Matassa's beautiful "Portrait" — a delicious collection of songs with her regular band — and former Seattle pianist Larry Fuller's "Overjoyed" continues the tradition of his previous work with Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton Trios. Greta Matassa's CD is a well-chosen selection of songs from Lil Armstrong to Johnny Mandel, Michel LeGrand and a swinger by Sam Jones.

Larry Fuller's CD includes the title song by Stevie Wonder as well as deep grooves by Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson and Ray Bryant and Larry's great touch on ballads. Larry first came to Seattle as Ernestine Anderson's regular pianist.

Other music on this week's show includes New York-based pianist and composer Amina Figarova who brings her sextet to Seattle next week, as well as artists from Vancouver, B.C. (Cory Weeds, Karin Plato) and Portland, Oregon (Charlie Porter), and some classic Cannonball Adderley from a live Seattle radio broadcast from the Penthouse in the '60s.

Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 p.m. Listeners may also subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, AppleGoogle or Spotify.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
