October is shaping up to be an outstanding month for Cuban music and Latin Jazz in the Seattle area.  Here's a preview of  some upcoming shows and artists.

Celebrating Cuba:

Soy Cuba! is a Cuban music and dance retrospective "from the danzón to the timba" at the Triple Door Friday October 6 and Saturday October 7.  Soy Cuba! features world-renowned artists Calixto Oviedo (NG La Banda) and Cuban dance and percussion master Roberto Borell, along with Seattle-based proponents of Cuban music Kiki Valera, Julio Jauregui, Carlos Cascante, Elspeth Savani and more.

Latin Jazz at the 2017 Earshot Jazz Festival, October 8 through November 12:  This year's festival celebrates both diversity and pianist Thelonious Monk's centennial (10/10/1917).

Panamanian piano wizard Danilo Pérez revisits and expands his tribute, Panamonk, with bassist Ben Street and drummer Adam Cruz on Wednesday October 11 at the Triple Door.

Omar Sosa's Quarteto AfroCubano returns to Seattle for the Earshot Jazz Festival on Tuesday October 17th, playing the Plestcheeff Auditorium at the Seattle Art Museum at 8pm.

Sosa's performances are never less than mesmerizing and not to be missed.

Brazilian pianist and composer Jovino Santos Neto makes a couple of appearances at the Earshot Jazz Festival this year; first, with the amazing bassoonist Martin Kuuskmann,  Thursday November 2 at the Chapel Performance Space at Good Shepherd Center.  This should be a delightful evening of invention and exploration.

Then on Monday November 6, The Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto settles into the orchestra pit at the Paramount Theatre to provide an original live score for the 1927 silent film The Unknown, starring Lon Chaney and Joan Crawford.  In the after-film discussion, Jovino will talk about his process of composing the music for the movie.
