Tacoma Urban League presents State of Black Tacoma 2025
For over 50 years, the Tacoma Urban League has worked to empower African Americans and other underserved residents in Pierce County through direct programming focused on education, housing, health, economic development, and advocacy. Their mission is to assist African Americans and other underserved urban residents in the achievement of social equality and economic independence.
The State of Black Tacoma brings together more than 220 leaders, residents, and changemakers to examine the issues most affecting the Black community in our region—from housing and economic opportunity to public safety and youth outcomes. With a strong history of engagement, the event offers an important space for dialogue, learning, and collective visioning for a more equitable Tacoma. For this year's event, please join Desiree' Wilkins Finch, Tacoma Urban League CEO and Tacoma's most impactful leaders for a powerful conversation on the "State of Black Tacoma" as we explore our key pillars: housing, jobs, education, health, and justice- and how these issues impact the Black/African American community. As we reflect on these areas, we will also tap into the brilliance in the room and identify solutions and spark collective action toward a more just and thriving Tacoma.
Held in Downtown Tacoma at University of Washington – Tacoma’s William W. Philip Hall, this important town hall meeting explores the state of the Black community in Tacoma and issues unique to the African American community. This event is a compilation of research, speakers, and individuals tailored to addressing disparities within our communities. As in years past, local and regional leaders will share insights on pressing issues.
The State of Black Tacoma event serves a broad cross-section of the community, including Black residents, community leaders, policymakers, educators, healthcare professionals, business owners, nonprofit organizations, and anyone invested in advancing social and economic equity in Tacoma. Our event is designed to bring together individuals from various backgrounds and sectors who want to stay informed, share experiences, and collaborate in addressing critical issues.
