Seattle Center Festál: Spirit of Africa 2025
Celebrate the rich diversity and joyfulness of African cultures at Spirit of Africa on May 10 at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall. This free one-day festival strives to educate the community about the importance of music and dance within the traditions of African countries.
This year, attendees can look forward to an even more immersive experience with interactive workshops, innovative demonstrations, and informative displays. Step into a world where culture meets couture, as Nansare Consolata’s African Print Takeover showcases the beauty and diversity of African fashion. Out-of-town artists will offer their own showcases and perform alongside local musicians, dancers, and singers for an awe-inspiring day of stage activity. Plus, you can browse and shop a marketplace filled with the best of African craftsmanship and cuisine. It''s a celebration not to be missed!
Originally founded as the Spirit of West Africa Festival in 2006 by esteemed Senegalese master drummer, Thione Diop, the festival has evolved over the years to encompass a broader representation of cultures and traditions, expanding its audience throughout the Pacific Northwest region. The festival committee consists of Thione and Gora Diop, and a team of dedicated individuals passionate about promoting cultural exchanges with the broader community.
Spirit of Africa is part of Seattle Center Festál, a year-round series of 25 free cultural festivals. Learn more about Festál here.
