Sorry, hipsters. Americans are “so over” you—so much so that some think you should be subject to a special tax, according to the results of a new nationwide poll.
The survey conducted by Public Policy Pollingfound just 16 percent of Americans view hipsters favorably. A whopping 42 percent hold an unfavorable view while 43 percent were undecided.
And 27 percent of voters found hipsters "so annoying" that they felt hipsters should have to pay an extra tax.
But what about the positive cultural contribution hipsters have made to society?
Forty-six percent of those surveyed said hipsters have only added “soullessly appropriate cultural tropes from the past for their own ironic amusement” while 23 percent said they have made some positive contributions.
The poll surveyed 571 Americans across the U.S. Ten percent identified themselves as a hipster, while 77 percent did not, and 13 percent were not sure.
Half of those between the ages of 18 and 29 said they considered themselves a hipster. All other age groups were made up of 5 percent or less self-identifying hipsters.
