Sports with Art Thiel

Covering all the major professional sports teams in Seattle as well as the University of Washington and Washington State University. Kirsten and Art also talk about the business of sports, such as the proposal to build a new arena in Seattle. Other issues they've discussed include head injuries in sports and the crackdown on domestic violence.

Thiel offers a unique and informed perspective to KNKX listeners. His philosophy for his commentary on KNKX is to give the casual sports fan "enough information to be interesting at a party."

The Seahawks will have the emotional edge over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night when the two teams battle it out at CenturyLink Field to see who wins the NFC West division of the National Football League.

After losing three running backs to injuries this month, the Seahawks have signed two former teammates to free-agent contracts. One of them is a fan favorite known as Beast Mode - Marshawn Lynch. If you're a Seattle sports fan, this week was epic. You celebrated a second Major League Soccer championship for the Sounders and a big overtime win for the Seahawks in Monday Night Football. KNKX sports commentator Art Thiel talked about it all with Morning Edition host Kirsten Kendrick. 

The Seahawks have their biggest game of the season so far on Monday night, heading to San Francisco to take on the undefeated 49ers. Sports commentator Art Thiel says that there are a lot of moving parts to this game.

Tickets went on sale Friday for the Major League Soccer championship match in Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 10. The Seattle Sounders will host Toronto FC in the MLS Cup final, for the third time in four seasons.

The Sounders beat Toronto to win the MLS Cup in 2016, but lost to them in the championship match the following year. KNKX sports commentator Art Thiel talked about the matchup and the history with Morning Edition host Kirsten Kendrick.

The Seahawks play the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday. It's a game the Seahawks are expected to win because they have a better record. The Seahawks have five wins and two losses. The Falcons are 1-6. Both of the region's professional soccer teams have playoff games this weekend. The Seattle Sounders host FC Dallas on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Reign FC play the North Carolina Courage on the road Sunday at 10:30 a.m. It's the topic of this week's conversation between KNKX sports commentator Art Thiel and Morning Edition host Kirsten Kendrick.

Reign FC and U.S. women's national team star Megan Rapinoe is standing by her comment that she would not go to the White House and meet with President Trump, if the defending champions win the World Cup again.
