Countless staple regional events that typically mark the start of summer have been canceled due to COVID-19. But the 49th annual Northwest Folklife Festival has made the shift to online. “From Home to Home: Northwest Folklife Festival” takes place this Memorial Day weekend.

The New Cool: Upcoming live modern jazz

The nights are getting longer in the Northwest, and there's plenty of live modern jazz sounds to be found around Seattle. This week's New Cool previews several hot dates in Seattle over the next seven days, including two shows presented by KNKX.

It's fund drive time at KNKX, so take this opportunity to support the jazz, blues, NPR and Northwest news you love by chipping in whatever you can at knkx.org or 877-NPR-KNKX (677-5758) right now. Saturday afternoon 3-6 p.m., I'll be teaming up with Robin Lloyd to encourage your pledge to The New Cool and Jazz Caliente. I also have some big news to announce regarding The New Cool at this year's Folklife Festival, running May 24-27 at Seattle Center.

The Northwest Folklife Festival starts Friday and runs through Memorial Day. The annual gathering highlights different cultures found in the region through stories, art, film, dance, food and song. There will even be opportunities for festival-goers to take the stage.
