Doug Macleod is a modern renaissance blues man. An award-winning musician and songwriter, he is also a columnist, radio host and teacher. As a sideman in the 1960s and 1970s he played with legends Big Mama Thornton, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson and Lowell Fulson among many others.
When he embarked on his own career, that experience was invaluable, both as a player and a songwriter. Since 1984, Doug has released over two dozen albums of his own original material and has won multiple awards, most recently the 2017 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Artist of the Year. Perhaps the greatest endorsement of Doug’s songwriting is the long list of people who have recorded his songs, including Albert King, Eva Cassidy and Joe Louis Walker.
Doug also had a stint as a blues radio host at KKJZ in Los Angeles, and his long-running column “Doug’s Back Porch” in Blues Revue Magazine has allowed Doug to tell some of the many stories he has become famous for. He is actually in the process of recording a DVD of just his stories.
Doug played songs from his new album "Break the Chain," including the title track which relates his experience recovering from childhood abuse and his relationship with his son.
