Wrong-way driver blamed for fatal crash in Marysville

A wrong-way driver is suspected of causing a fatal crash on Interstate 5 at Marysville this (Friday) morning.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary said a driver going north in the southbound lanes slammed into two other vehicles about 5:15 a.m. near the Tulalip Casino. As of 9 a.m. traffic was still backed up about 4.5 miles. The wrong-way driver was killed and the drivers of the two other vehicles were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett where they were expected to recover.

A man, believed to be in his late 20s, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo northbound in the southbound lanes, Leary said. He died after collisions with a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a Marysville man and a 2007 Dodge Caliber driven by a Stanwood woman, 33.

KOMO reports it was not exactly clear where the wrong-way driver entered the freeway, and the person's name has not been released.

The freeway re-opened at about 8:15 a.m.
