Weekend Won't Be All Sunshine, But Monday Will Be Glorious

Freshly blooming daffodils frame the Space Needle against a blue sky background following days of rain and clouds Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in Seattle.

Got outdoor plans this weekend? You’ll want to make use of your Saturday morning, says KPLU weather expert Cliff Mass.

Friday “won’t be a bad day” with temperatures reaching mid-50s and a few showers here and there, Mass said.

But things will start to transition on Saturday, which will start with partly-cloudy skies.

Want Dry Weather? Forget Sleeping In Saturday

“The clouds will thicken during the late morning. And during the afternoon, some serious rain will be moving in,” said Mass. “So I would say by 5 o’clock, even earlier, it will be raining.”

Mass’ advice: “Do whatever you’re going to do early in the morning.”

We’ll see rain overnight Saturday, then Sunday will bring a few showers with temperatures in the upper 50s.

'The Payoff Comes On Monday'

And here’s the rub: “The payoff comes on Monday,” said Mass. “You’re not going to believe this, but we’re talking about temperatures in the upper 60s, maybe even near 70 in parts of western Washington.”

That’s right. Things will get incredibly nice just in time to return to work.

“I mean, it’s getting kind of depressing. We’ve seen this over and over again. The weekends have some showers and clouds, and then it gets good on Monday and Tuesday,” said Mass.

But there is good news: Mass says we’ll see fewer April showers than normal.

“April will probably end up being near-normal or lower than normal in terms of precipitation, and I think we have a good chance at being lower than normal,” said Mass.
