It’s time to get out the sunscreen and summer clothes.
KPLU weather expert Cliff Mass says we have a beautiful weekend ahead of us.
“The silver bullet has killed the weekend curse,” Mass said, noting the sunny skies covering most of the region on Friday, with predictions for more of that over the weekend accompanied by a warming trend that will burn off any residual clouds inland or on the coast.
“And so I think we’ll have a sunny day and temperatures in the interior getting up to the mid to upper 60s, maybe up to even lower 70s, so a really nice day.”
He says there’s a chance of a few showers over the mountains in the late afternoon on Friday and over the weekend, but that’s the only place where summery conditions won’t preside.
Saturday, a ridge of high pressure is going to build in farther.
“So we’re going to see a warming into probably the lower 70s for much of western Washington away from the water,” Mass said.
“And then it even revs up more on Sunday,” he said, with temps hitting the mid-70s and sunshine over most of the region.
“So really, a phenomenally nice weekend.”
No June Gloom, Evcn As May Ends
Mass predicts the summer trend will continue until at least Monday, with a slight chance of more clouds moving in Tuesday morning as a weak disturbance may be moving out to the Gulf of Alaska.
“But nothing serious. There’s no major storm at least for the next week.”
However, he adds that with pressure building on the coast, the typical cloudy pattern known as June Gloom is probably right around the corner.
“I would give the June Gloom a chance to work,” Mass said, predicting an accumulation of low clouds over the ocean soon.
“And I suspect the coastal areas will see a big piece of the June Gloom certainly early in the week,” Mass said.
