A company that designs super-fast cars is hoping to build a new factory in the state. Shelby SuperCars is eyeing a site in south-central Washington, in the city of West Richland.
Until recently, Shelby held the record for the making the fastest production car on earth: an average of about 256 miles per hour. Now the company working on their next generation speed demon. Shelby has applied for an $800,000 state loan to buy property and build a new manufacturing facility.

Company spokesman Junus Khan says Shelby SuperCars wants to ramp up, but production will still be modest compared to other specialty car makers in Europe.
“Our competitors, they produce upwards of 50 to 100 per year. So the fact that we’re producing 12 to 24 per year we’re able to fit into the shell we’re not really overextending ourselves with huge manufacturing lines that are going to be shut down if we don’t have the orders to back them up,” says Khan.
The car company and the city of West Richland, should hear if the loan is approved by the end of this month.
