Sound Effect, Episode 12: Lost And Found

"Sound Effect" is your weekly tour of ideas, inspired by the place we live. The show is hosted by KNKX's Gabriel Spitzer.

Each week's show explores a different theme, and this time around, it’s tales of lost and found.

KNKX’s Jennifer Wingunspools the story of Snowball, a frequently lost cat who seemed perfectly happy to stay that way, and who eventually found his people – just, not at his house.

Seattle writer Hoai Tran goes on a long-shot quest to find lost relatives, and is rather shocked to succeed.

Then, Trevis Gleason was a Seattle chef at the top of his game, until a devastating diagnosis cost him his marriage and career. He chronicles the loss, and how he found clarity, in his book Chef Interrupted. He talks with KPLU’s Dick Stein.

And finally, KNKX's Kevin Kniestedt chases after that most elusive quarry: the karaoke unicorn. We’ll hear how this story was born, and why Senior Producer Arwen Nicks says he screwed it all up.

This month also marks six years since the Seattle Post-Intelligencer stopped publishing its print newspaper. And so, for the Lost and Found edition of our news round table, we invited in three P-I alumni: Tom Paulson, Art Thiel and Mike Lewis. They break down the week’s news, and reflect on the loss of the paper and the new paths they’ve found since.

Gabriel Spitzer is a former KNKX reporter, producer and host who covered science and health and worked on the show Sound Effect.
