Singer Jacqueline Tabor And Her Band In Concert At SAM

Jim Wilke

Seattle Art Museum's monthly Art of Jazz series featured singer Jacqueline Tabor and her band at the April concert.  The concerts are presented at SAM by Earshot Jazz and most are recorded for later broadcast on 88.5 KNKX.

Jacqueline Tabor sang with the 200 Trio (Cole Schuster, guitar, Greg Feingold, bass and Max Holmberg, drums) and saxophonist Alexey Nikolaev. Included were many songs associated with jazz greats among Jacqueline Tabor's inspirations including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Bessie Smith, Edmonia Jarrett and Ernestine Anderson.

Jacqueline Tabor is a native of Bellevue where she received early vocal training and experience at Sammish High School, and went on to Southern University in Baton Rouge. She also studied with Andrienne Wilson at Cornish College, and was inspired by her godmother, the late singer Edmonia Jarrett.  Jacqueline received the Kobe Jazz Queen award in competition at Jazz Alley in 2011 which resulted in her performance in Kobe later that year.  The following year she received the NW Vocalist of the Year award from Earshot Jazz. She has recorded two albums.

The Art of Jazz concerts are presented without charge on the second Thursday of each month in Brotman Forum at SAM. The talent for the series is coordinated by John Gilbreath, executive director of Earshot Jazz.

Next in the series will be Alex Dugdale's Fade Quartet on May 11, and the Samantha Boshnack Quintet on June 8.  The concerts are recorded and produced by Jim Wilke for later broadcast on Jazz Northwest.  After broadcast, programs are archived and may be streamed on demand at jazznw.org
