Seattle Swings Into The First Week Of Jazz Month On Jazz Northwest

April is celebrated as National Jazz Month, and the month begins in Seattle with a flurry of activity including both touring and resident musicians playing in the the first week.  One of the visiting groups featured on Jazz Northwest this Sunday is Ryan Keberle & Catharsis (pictured) which begins a West Coast tour at the Poncho Theatre at Cornish College in Seattle on April 7.  

Ryan Keberle is originally from Spokane and now active on the New York scene. The band will also play Missoula, Spokane, Ellensburg, Eugene and Arcata, including clinics and workshops along the way. 

Among other artists playing in the area and featured on this week's Jazz Northwest are Elspeth Savani, Rick Mandyck, Eric Hullander, Kelly Eisenhour and Steve Griggs.  Jazz Northwest will go "on location" several times this month to record concerts for future broadcasts.  Next  Sunday, April 12 will feature a performance by the Greenblatt Generations Band, Tatum Greenblatt and Dad Dan at Tula's playing  jazz standards and originals.  Future weeks will include the Jacob Zimmerman Quintet at the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra with guest soloist Wycliffe Gordon.
