Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra Plays Big Band Brubeck And Desmond

Highlights from Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra concerts featuring music of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond are featured this week on Jazz Northwest. The concert includes some of the most renowned compositions of Brubeck and Desmond including Wendy, In Your Own Sweet Way, Take Five and The Duke.

The original recordings by the Dave Brubeck Quartet are among the best selling jazz records of all time, but in this concert various arrangers for 17-piece big band expand the scores.  In the roles of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond are Randy Halberstadt, piano, and Michael Brockman and Sidney Hauser, alto saxes.

This was the third of the five concert series in the current season of the SRJO and this program of highlights is drawn from performances at Kirkland Performance Center (Feb 18) and Edmonds Center for The Arts (Feb 19).  Remaining concerts in this season include Duke Ellington's Such Sweet Thunder with actors (April 21,22,23), and Dee Daniels sings with the SRJO (June 16, 17, 18).  The SRJO is co-directed by Michael Brockman and Clarence Acox.
