The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra In Concert On Jazz Northwest

The opening concerts of the 2018-2019 season of The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra were played in Seattle and Kirkland on October 6 and 7. The concert program was billed as "A Night at The Village Vanguard" and features music by a few of the artists who have played at the legendary Greenwich Village jazz club, including Thad Jones, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Bob Brookmeyer and others.

The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra's co-artistic directors are Clarence Acox and Michael Brockman and the band includes some of the area's top jazz soloists, many are bandleaders and educators themselves.  The SRJO presents an annual season of five pairs of concerts in Seattle and Kirkland, three of which are repeated in Everett.  The next concerts by the SRJO will be on November 3 and 4 and will feature composer Maria Schneider who was recently named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.  The five-time Grammy Award winner will conduct her own music in these concerts.

Jazz Northwest airs Sundays at 2 PM Pacific and is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke.  After broadcast, programs may be streamed on demand at jazznw.org.
