School of Jazz Studio Session Special From Vancouver, B.C.

BRENDA GOLDSTEIN-YOUNG

It's School of Jazz, Canadian-style!  Tune in today at 12:15 p.m. for our first-ever international School of Jazz studio session which Abe Beeson hosted on June 26, 2015, and was recorded at The Farm Studios in Vancouver, B.C. with the award-winning Point Grey Secondary School jazz band and their mentor, saxophonist/clarinetist James Danderfer, under the direction of Brent Taylor.  The studio session kicked off KPLU's (and Jazz24's) on-site activities at the 30th TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Film students from Capilano University in North Vancouver produced “The KPLU School of Jazz from Vancouver,” a short documentary on the Point Grey jazz program which includes footage from the School of Jazz studio session.  Abe is interviewed in the documentary along with jazz students, Brent Taylor, James Danderfer, Coastal Jazz & Blues Marketing Director Judie Dahl, and music educator Bob Rebagliati, who facilitates the TD High School Jazz Intensive at the Festival and selected the Point Grey band for our studio session.

Thanks so much to Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, The Farm Studios, Nimbus School of Recording & Media and GGRP Sound in Vancouver, B.C.
