It may be drying out this weekend and into next week ... but this past week brought some serious rain.

Some parts of western Washington saw 6-7 inches of rain on Tuesday. The new coastal radar helped alert people to which rivers were threatening to flood, says KPLU weather expert Cliff Mass.

Mass discusses the "Pineapple Express" (otherwise known as an "atmospheric river") and coins a new phrase, the "Sushi Express" to describe the storms that hit this week. Listen to the details in his discussion with Keith Seinfeld in the above audio.

The weekly KPLU feature "Weather with Cliff Mass" airs every Friday at 9 a.m. immediately following BirdNote, and repeats twice on Friday afternoons during All Things Considered. The feature is hosted by KPLU’s Health and Science reporter Keith Seinfeld. Cliff Mass is a University of Washington Professor of Atmospheric Sciences and renowned Seattle weather prognosticator.Checkout the podcast of the show.
