The New Cool: GoGo Penguin's Acoustic Electronica

Manchester trio GoGo Penguin make their Seattle debut at the Triple Door on Tuesday September 12.  I recently spoke with the band's bass player Nick Blacka.

Blacka talks about England's diverse musical landscape, GoGo Penguin's acoustic mix of electronica, jazz and classical influences, and moving beyond labels.  We don't think too hard about it ourselves, 'what genre?'.   You know, we just make music that we like," he says.

Beginning the conversation, he talks about joining his band mates and forming this trio:

Just a couple of days ago, we finalized arrangements to bring GoGo Penguin into the KNKX studios Tuesday afternoon for an exclusive live performance at 12:15, but you should also catch their full set at the Triple Door, with an opening set from 1939 Ensemble from Portland - I'm planning on being there, too!

The New Cool airs Saturdays from 3-5p.m, hosted by Abe Beeson and produced by KNKX Public Radio in Seattle, Wash.
