The New Cool: Allstars In The Big Easy

May 4, 2018

I'm just back from a fantastic trip to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. There are far too many moments from the festival grounds to mention here, but on Sunday night I found an allstar group of New Cool favorites on the edge of the French Quarter.

Check out a few of my pictures from the "Worship My Organ" show with Robert Walter, Wil Blades and John Medeski on keyboards, joined by drummer Adam Dietch, turntablist DJ Logic, and Seattle's own Skerik on saxophonics!

Robert Walter lets the good times roll, nicely photobombed by DJ Logic over his shoulder.

Better late than never, John Medeski came straight from the airport to join in for the second set at One Eyed Jacks.

Needless to say, I highly recommend a trip to New Orleans for the Jazz & Heritage Festival. Pro tip: when the sun sets on the festival festivities, take a nap and get rested. All over the city, the fun is just beginning.

Robert Walter's own band is in the mix on 88.5 this week, Skerik and New Orleans drummer Stanton Moore help finish our New Cool show this Saturday in the wonderful band Garage A Trois. You'll also hear new coolness from Soulive, Charlie Ballantine, The New Mastersounds, Blue Lab Beats and just in time for Cinco de Mayo, the fantastic Guadelajara group Troker. Pass it on!

The New Cool airs Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. The program is hosted by Abe Beeson and produced by KNKX Public Radio in Seattle, Wash.
