These two are no fair-weathered fans.
Diehard Seahawks fans Greg Kockritz and Sean Cochran spent the night in a tent on Fourth Avenue, determined to stake out front-row seats for the teams’ victory parade on Wednesday.
Never mind the cold. These two arrived at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, a two-person tent, a propane heater and an air mattress in tow.
“It don’t get no better than this,” said Kockritz. “Come on, this has been 39 years coming!”
Still, the two fans weren’t sure whether the police would allow their oversized setup to stand.
“Basically stretched about a quarter of a block,” Cochran said.
“We were sitting here, five minutes, Seattle police pulls up, slows down, turns on the intercom and says, ‘Go, Hawks!’ and drives away,” said Kockritz.
Temperatures dipped below freezing overnight, but even the cold couldn’t dampen the faithful fans’ excitement.
“I was there in ’79. My dad took me and my brother down in ’79, and I remembered that,” said Cochran. “And [I said,] ‘Kids, we’ve got to go.’ Pulled’em out of school. Came down, saved a spot. They’re on their way. Got to do it up the way it’s supposed to be done,” said Cochran.
“This is the best Christmas you can have times a hundred,” Kockritz said.
