The Lefties Bring Baseball To Port Angeles

Lefties Team Store

In Port Angeles, the baseball season has just begun. The town is home to the Lefties, one of 11 teams in the West Coast League.

The collegiate summer league gives the best players a chance to keep playing when school lets out. There are many similar leagues around the country. Cape Cod and Northwoods are a couple of other elite ones.

The Lefties came to Port Angeles in 2016. Their owner, Matt Acker, moved them from Bremerton, where they were known as the Kitsap BlueJackets.

Acker coached the BlueJackets for several years before he bought the team. He's a hands-on kind of owner, happy to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty for the good of the team.

Although Acker is a newcomer to Port Angeles, he already feels a part of the community. It reminds him of his hometown of Aberdeen. And he's captivated by the natural wonders that surround him there. From home plate at Civic Field, where the Lefties play, Hurricane Ridge looms large.
