Latin Jazz Artists at SFJAZZ

Charkrem
SFJAZZ Center Auditorium

Latin Jazz artists are well-represented at the new SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco, which had its grand opening this week with an all-star concert, broadcast and video streamed on public radio stations.

On the roster of SFJAZZ Center's Resident Artistic Directors are percussionist/ writer/teacher/historian John Santos and Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenon.  The Education Director at SFJAZZ is pianist and educator Rebeca Mauleon.

SFJAZZ Collective, the touring repertory group, has included Miguel Zenon for several years, as well as Puerto Rican saxophonist David Sanchez end Venezuelan pianist Edward Simon.

Let's look forward to great music events coming from the west coast's new jazz center, and listen for the best in Latin Jazz on Jazz Caliente, Thursdays at 2pm on KPLU's Mid Day Jazz!

Originally from Detroit, Robin Lloyd has been presenting jazz, blues and Latin jazz on public radio for nearly 40 years. She's a member of the Jazz Education Network and the Jazz Journalists Association.
