KNKX Student DJ Manny Aldape

Abe Beeson

Seventeen year-old Manny Aldape will be a senior at Lake Stevens High School.  He shares an hour of his favorite jazz with Abe Beeson on Thursday, August 3 from 8-9 p.m.

Which instrument do you play and why?

Tenor saxophone.  I play saxophone because my friend's brother was playing in the middle school band (6th grade) and that's when band started for my school.  He was encouraging me to play alto saxophone.  I "changed" my horn when I got to high school because playing jazz on a tenor saxophone was more fun than alto.

What’s your all-time favorite jazz piece? All of them.

Who is your jazz hero? Sonny Stitt.

Why jazz? Because it allows me to break all the rules and be independent.

Manny's playlist for August 3, 8-9 p.m.:

"Sunny Side of the Street" - Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt

"Sandunga" - Arturo Sandoval (Hot House)

"Honeysuckle Rose" - Doc Severinson and The Tonight Show Band (Once More

with Feeling)

"Sonny's Tune" - Sonny Stitt (New York Jazz)

"Blue Bossa" - Dexter Gordon

"Chega de Saudade" - Dizzy Gillespie (No More Blues)

"Motel Swing" - Sonny Stitt and Oscar Peterson

"Sandu" - Clifford Brown

"You Gotta Try" - Buddy Rich (North Sea Jazz Legendary Concepts)
