Since 2005, KNKX's School of Jazz has provided mentorship, learning and performance opportunities to Western Washington middle school, high school and college jazz students. A cornerstone of the station's signature community outreach program, it has directly impacted thousands of jazz students, band directors and professional musicians. School of Jazz is sponsored by BECU.

KNKX Student DJ Holden Predmore

Seventeen year-old Holden Predmore plays bass at Nathan Hale High School. He shares an hour of his favorite jazz with Abe Beeson on October 5 from 8:00-9:00 pm.

Which instrument do you play and why? I play bass because bass is cool and it is the base of all music.

What’s your all-time favorite jazz piece? "So What" by Miles Davis off of Four and More.

Who is your jazz hero? Currently, Esperanza Spalding.

Why jazz? Because it's better than classical (and because it's the root of all modern music).

Holden's playlist for October 5, 8:00-9:00 pm:

“UH UH” THUNDERCAT (Drunk)

“YESTERDAYS” PAUL CHAMBERS (Bass On Top)

“STARS (Live)” NINA SIMONE (Let It Be Me)

“OPTIMO” LIQUID LIQUID (Liquid Liquid)

“THE FLOWER CALLED NOWHERE” STEREOLAB (Dots and Loops)

“TO YOU” BADBADNOTGOOD (TO YOU single ’17)

“JUPITER” JOHN COLTRANE (Interstellar Space)

“SHHH/PEACEFUL (LP Mix)” MILES DAVIS (In A Silent Way)
