Ninth grader P.J. Colino, who plays alto sax and clarinet in the Seattle Academy Jazz Ensemble, is our guest student DJ for December.
Age: 14
Which instrument do you play and why?
I play the alto saxophone and the clarinet. I play these two because they get important roles in the band and they produce the sweetest sound.
What’s your all-time favorite jazz piece?
"Hello, Dolly" by Louis Armstrong.
Who is your jazz hero?
Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong are tied for my number one.
Why jazz?
Jazz is unlike any other music because you have the freedom to go outside of the lines and do whatever you feel like doing musically. Also, nothing can get you in a groove like a good swing tune.
