The 17th annual Ballard Jazz Festival took place during the last weekend of May this year with four nights filled with live jazz in the heart of old Ballard.
The festival began in 2002 with the Jazz Walk, and it continues to be one of the most popular events of the festival. This year there were ten venues hosting sixteen bands on this one night, and happy crowds moved from one venue to another over six hours.
Jazz Northwest spent most of the night at one venue recording an all-star quartet led by Rick Mandyck on tenor sax, with Thomas Marriott on trumpet, Jeff Johnson, bass and John Bishop at the drums. They played at Kula Movement, a yoga studio that became a listening room for this one night.
Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 p.m. Listeners may also subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, Apple, Google or Spotify.
