Jazz Northwest: Kendra Shank and John Stowell duo concert at Seattle Art Museum

Today on Jazz Northwest we highlight this month's Art of Jazz concert, which fell on Valentine's Day and featured an intimate duo with singer Kendra Shank and guitarist John Stowell.

Kendra began her singing career as a folk singer in Seattle and Paris. She focused on jazz after studying with Jay Clayton in Seattle and moved to New York 20 years ago where she sings regularly with her own quartet.  Revisiting her old hometown, she performed at the Seattle Art Museum with Portland resident John Stowell who is well known to Seattle fans.  Kendra and John have recorded a CD together, "New York Conversations."

John Gilbreath coordinates the Art of Jazz series for Earshot Jazz and the Seattle Art Museum, which hosts the free series on the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30p.m.

Next week on the show, Michael Brockman leads The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra in concert featuring three guest singers in arrangements recorded by The Count Basie Orchestra. Jacqueline Tabor, Darliene Parker and Butch Harrison join SRJO for the show.

Jazz Northwest airs each Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on KNKX, and streams at KNKX.org.  The program is produced by host Jim Wilke, and after broadcast may be streamed on demand at JazzNW.org. Listeners also may subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, AppleGoogle or Spotify.
