Jazz Northwest For January 25th

Over 3 decades of jazz from the Pacific Northwest is featured on this week's Jazz Northwest Sunday, January 25 at 2 PMPacific.  An upcoming two trombone tribute to Frank Rosolino and Carl Fontana will feature Rodger Fox (NZ) and David Marriott Jr (WA) at the Royal Room.  It seemed like a good excuse to listen again to the spectacular trombonists Rosolino and Fontana as they played at The Bayside in Vancouver BC in 1978.

More recent selections include solo, duo and big band recordings by pianist Jessica Williams, Dave Liebman and John Stowell, and the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra in concert in Kirkland. Some picks for live jazz in the area are also included in this show.

Jazz Northwest is produced and hosted by Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 PM Pacific on 88.5 KPLU and streams at kplu.org.  The program is also available as a podcast at jazznw.org following the broadcast.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
