Jazz Northwest: I got a right to sing the blues

Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan were among the great singers of their generation. They all shared a love for the deep swing of the Count Basie Orchestra and made some great records with Basie. That was the inspiration for a recent set of concerts played by the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, as part of their season series.

Jacqueline Tabor, Darliene Parker and Butch Harrison were special guests of the SRJO in concerts performed in Seattle, Kirkland and Edmonds. The concerts in Kirkland and Edmonds were recorded for radio and highlights will air on Jazz Northwest on Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m.

Jazz Northwest airs each Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on KNKX, and streams at KNKX.org.  The program is produced by host Jim Wilke, and after broadcast may be streamed on demand at JazzNW.org. Listeners also may subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, AppleGoogle or Spotify.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
