Jazz Northwest: Cory Weeds live at Frankie's and Jazz Forest CD debut

Probably the next best thing to hearing a jazz group playing live in a jazz club is a good recording of that performance. That's the latest offering from Vancouver, B.C., musician, presenter and label owner Cory Weeds.

This quintet plays some relatively unfamiliar titles by Lee Morgan, Mal Waldron, Jackie McLean, Walter Davis Jr. and others in a new CD recorded in performance at Frankie's Jazz Club in Vancouver, B.C.

Also on this week's show is the debut CD by Jazz Forest. A 12-piece band of musicians from Los Angeles and Seattle led by veteran composer-arranger Ron Jones. The band was recorded at his studio in Stanwood. Pete Christlieb, Susan Pascal, Chuck Findley and Bill Anschell are among the soloists.

Jazz Northwest airs Sundays at 2 p.m. on KNKX, and streams at knkx.org. The program is produced by host Jim Wilke, and after broadcast may be streamed on demand at jazznw.org. Listeners also may subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, AppleGoogle or Spotify.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
