Jazz Northwest: August 10, 2014

New jazz releases from musicians in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver BC are featured on this week's Jazz Northwest. We have a sneak preview of pianist Gordon Lee with the Mel Brown Septet, the Tuesday night band at Jimmy Mak's in Portland. Tom Collier and Dan Dean are a long-standing pair of Seattle musicians who have a new CD titled Slick Buick, and we'll also sample Triology, a very smooth piano-guitar-bass trio from Vancouver BC.

We have more new releases from Portland, Seattle and Vancouver musicians, plus some best bets for live jazz in the coming week. Next week on Jazz Northwest, NEA Jazz Master Bill Holman leads the Centrum Jazz Port Townsend All-Star Big Band in an exciting concert of his compositions and arrangements.

Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by Jim Wilke exclusively for 88.5, KPLU and kplu.org. The program is also available as a podcast.

Jim has been a fixture on Seattle radio since 1961. He was the host of Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International from 1984-2014. Currently Jim has been producing Jazz Northwest for KNKX since 1988. This weekly program focuses on the regional jazz scene and frequently includes performances Jim records on location for Jazz Northwest.
