Jazz Northwest for April 14, 2019

Origin Records

Scenes, the northwest jazz trio with musicians hailing from Portland and Seattle whose sixth album "Destinations" was released on the Origin label last year.

Guitarist John Stowell, bassist Jeff Johnson and drummer John Bishop are all individualistic improvisers who blend and support each other with seemingly effortless grace and invention.  Bassist Jeff Johnson is featured on his composition "Long Prairie" on this edition of Jazz Northwest.   Congratulations to Origin label heads John Bishop and Matt Jorgensen for being named Seattle Jazz Heros by the Jazz Journalists Association. Bishop and Jorgensen also produce the annual Ballard Jazz Festival, coming this May 29-June 1, as well as a website and newsletter.

Also on this week's show, Cory Weeds, Jay Thomas, Miranda Sage, Ingrid Jensen & Steve Treseler and Dina Blade. On next weeks show we feature highlights from an Art of Jazz concert series, featuring trombonist Naomi Moon Siegel leading a quintet at the Seattle Art Museum with Wayne Horvitz, Sean Woolstenhulme, Geoff Harper and Eric Eagle.

Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by host Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 p.m. Listeners may also subscribe to the podcast at KNKX, NPR, AppleGoogle or Spotify.
