Jazz Northwest For April 10, 2016

Jazz Northwest previews some of the live jazz performances coming up and samples new releases by resident artists. Pianist Chano Domínguez; born in Cadiz, Spain and now living in our area; blends his Flamenco tradition with his love of jazz. He'll play a solo concert in the Art of Jazz Series at The Seattle Art Museum Thursday at 5:30 - and there's no charge for admission.

Also on this week's show, music by NEA Jazz Master Bill Holman who will direct the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra in three concerts next weekend, French horn player Tom Varner who leads a quartet and directs the Cornish Creative Ensemble this Sunday (4/10) at The Royal Room, Brazilian singer, guitarist and composer Joyce Moreno who will appear with pianist Kenny Werner at Jazz Alley this week.

Portland composer and multi-instrumentalist George Colligan has a new CD, as does Victoria singer Miranda Sage and we'll sample their music as well as Vancouver guitarist Oliver Gannon and singer Trish Hatley on this week's show.

Jazz Northwest is produced by Jim Wilke and airs Sundays at 2 PM Pacific on 88.5 KPLU and streams at KPLU.  Previous programs may be streamed at Jazz Northwest
