Gonzaga University has joined the official Catholic movement in support of environmental stewardship.
On Monday, Gonzaga University President Thayne McCulloh and the president of Gonzaga Preparatory high school both signed the St. Francis Pledge.At a news conference, McCulloh said Gonzaga recognizes the impact of our actions on people around the world, “especially those among us who are vulnerable and therefore suffer the most from climate change and environmental degradation.”
In 2009, the Catholic Climate Covenant launched the St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor. Nearly 9,500 individuals, parishes, and schools have signed it since.
The pledge asks people to pray and learn about climate change, to change individual actions related to energy use and consumption, and to be present in global discussions on climate change.
