Food Ball: Rival high schools in Grays Harbor County compete for a good cause

GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY, WASHINTON — Aberdeen and Hoquiam high schools have been rivals on the football field since 1906. Hoquiam won this year’s game, back in September, 28-7. The Grizzlies had an undefeated regular season, with the first loss coming in a playoff game on Nov. 17. But that’s not the only rivalry that plays out every fall.

Students at the two schools annually participate in “Food Ball,” competing to see who can raise the most cash and food for local food banks. This year, the schools combined raised more than $155,000 and some 13,000 pounds of food, in just about 12 days.

Representatives from both schools told us more about the program. You’ll hear the voices of student leaders Tamara Corona and Elyse Goulet, as well as teachers Ashley Kohlmeier and Clark Davis.
