A big ridge of high pressure is setting up that will lock in increasingly sunny and warm days in the week ahead all around Western Washington.
KNKX weather expert Cliff Mass, who teaches atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington, says if you’re into watching storms or other exciting weather features, you’re not going to find them in the Evergreen state this week.
No Rain, Sun Every Day
“We have a boring forecast,” Mass says. “High pressure has built on us and it’ll build even more during the next few days.”
That means a forecast that most people will look forward to.
“We have at least a week of no rain, sun every day. And it’s going to be extraordinary,” Mass said.
Some Morning Fog
One issue with the ridge of high pressure, Mass says, is that it tends to come with fog in the morning. That was true on Friday morning, which started with lots of low clouds and fog all around the region. He predicts more of that on Saturday.
“But as we get into the weekend, we’ll get more offshore flow as the high pressure at the surface builds inland more. And that’s going to prevent most of the low clouds and fog on Sunday and Monday,” he says.
And temperatures will get into the low 60s on Friday, steadily climbing over the weekend into the mid-60s by Sunday and mid- to upper-60s on Monday and Tuesday.
“It’s amazing. This ridge is going to lock in place and it’s going to stay there at least till the end of next week. So we’re going to have really perfect fall weather – at least through next Friday,” Mass says.
