Heather and Dave Boyer of Post Falls, Idaho, were in the midst of planning their wedding the week of the 9/11 attacks

Reflections of a north Idaho couple who had scheduled their wedding for September 15, 2001:

Dave: "My name's David Boyer."

Heather: "I am Dave's wife, Heather Boyer. Oh, you always hope on your wedding day that people are going to be happy and joyous."

Dave: "It was just going to be perfect."

Heather: "We wanted to have as many people there as possible."

Dave: "Well, the Tuesday before our wedding, I was leaving for work and one of the neighbors came out of her apartment, yelling and screaming, 'The terrorists have attacked! The terrorists have attacked!'"

Heather: "And while we were watching it on the news, the plane hit the second tower and just really didn't seem real."

Dave: "I didn't, I couldn't even think about anything else at that particular time. And then the next day it kind of sunk in: All the airports are closed. There's nobody going to be flying in or out. And we're like, 'Oh no, what are we going to do now?"'

Heather: "That's when I thought, 'We should postpone this wedding.'"

Dave: "And our family members just said, 'You kids need to have this wedding. Something good needs to come out of this.'"

Heather: "When we think about our wedding day, the first thing that comes to our mind is 9/11 and what was happening. So this year, our 10th anniversary, we decided to have a 9/11 memorial at the same time. It's made us who we are. We have a beautiful life. We have our lives."
