Pianist and composer Ann Reynolds brought her ClaveGringa band to The Seattle Art Museum to warm up a cool evening for this month's Art of Jazz Concert, presented by Earshot. The concert was recorded for broadcast and highlights aired on Jazz Northwest on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
Ann Reynolds has made annual pilgrimages to Cuba to study Cuban music and folklore since 2000. She has collected her impressions in eleven original compositions on her new CD Para Cuba con Amor. Music from the new CD was featured in this concert at the Seattle Art Museum. Included are classic forms such as rumba, danzon, songo and bolero. ClaveGringa includes Kiki Valera, cuatro, Daniel Barry, trumpet, Dean Schmidt, bass Steve Smith, congas & bongos, and Pedro Vargas, bongos and timbales.
Jazz Northwest is recorded and produced by Jim Wilke exclusively for 88.5 KPLU and kplu.org. The program airs every Sunday at 2 p.m. PST and is also available as a podcast at kplu.org after the broadcast.
