If you are not at the Earshot Jazz Festivalthis weekend, check out a few film festivals, explore wildlife at the Point Defiance Zoo and listen to Grammy Award winning group Manhattan Transfer.

One

For our friends in Vancouver, B.C., this Friday, Oct. 14, marks the end of the Vancouver International Film Festival. The annual film festival attracts over 150,000 viewers each year, and next years’ festival marks its 20th year of operation.

Two

The 3-day Gig Harbor Film Festival kicked off this Friday at 10 a.m. The festival features independent film makers from around Puget Sound and beyond. There will also be a screening of the documentary More to Live For , featuring three men seeking bone marrow transplants, including legendary jazz tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker. Grammy Award-winning vocal group, Manhattan Transfer, will be performing on Thursday at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle. The group will finish their Seattle visit on Sunday. Tickets are $40 and are available online or through phone.

For excellent family fun, adventure and themed entertainment go to the Point Defiance Zoo’s Zoo Boo celebration. There is an assortment of great activities available, but if you wear a costume, standard admission is two dollars off.
