Your Station, Your Impact
Individual listeners are the largest source of financial support for the jazz, blues, and NPR news you count on at KNKX. Your vital support makes everything we do possible. These initiatives, along with all of our daily jazz, blues, and news services, are fueled by the generosity of listeners:
New Programs – We’re always looking for ways to improve our service and better meet the needs of listeners. To address a growing demand for expanded access to jazz and blues, KNKX recently added three new music programs to our schedule. Check out Studio Sessions Spotlight (Fridays, 8-9 p.m.), Grooveyard (Saturdays 1-4 p.m.), and New Music Review (Saturdays, 4-5 p.m.) on the air, online, or through your smart speaker; perfect examples of what the collective support of listeners makes possible.
Transmission – This podcast focuses on what life is like during the time of COVID-19. Transmission tackles the pandemic from many angles, painting a vivid picture of one of the biggest and most important stories in recent memory.
Take the Mic – This project asks young people in our region to share how they are making sense of the world in the age of COVID-19 and widespread protests against police brutality and systemic racism. Through this program KNKX empowers youths to add their unique voices to the story of these uncertain and unprecedented times.
School of Jazz - With most schools closed and in-person gatherings discouraged, music education, including our own School of Jazz program, has been greatly impacted by COVID-19. Despite these challenges, our School of Jazz DJ program is up-and-running, inviting students to participate virtually, and we’ve been fortunate enough to feature local student groups through virtual events, such as our Holiday Jam and our first remote SOJ Studio Session.
KNKX Community Page – Out of the inability to gather at large, in-person events, the KNKX Community page was born. The KNKX Community page is a one-stop destination for information on virtual events of all shapes, sizes, and topics. From music and civic events, to film screenings and online museum tours, this resource helps you stay connected to your community.
Virtual Events – During this past year, we’ve found new ways to connect with listeners, including a wide range of virtual event offerings. These have included music performances from some of the best blues and jazz artists out there with All Blues Presents and remote Studio Sessions. We provided a platform for thought-provoking storytelling with our recent Pandemic and Protests and Election 2020 events. We welcomed thousands of listeners to Winter Birds in the Skagit Valley, an event presented in partnership with BirdNote. Please stay tuned for more opportunities like these in the coming months. Recordings of all these events can be accessed from our YouTube channel.
COVID-19 Coverage and Resources – Being well-informed on the latest developments surrounding COVID-19 is critical to the health of our communities. The KNKX news teams has been working tirelessly to ensure you have the information you need to safely and responsibly navigate this pandemic with in-depth reporting and up-to-date resources.
