The Washington Transportation Department says the work that has shut down the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle is on schedule.

Spokesman Travis Phelps says the viaduct is scheduled to reopen early Monday. He said Wednesday it's unlikely the work would wrap up ahead of schedule. Some had hoped it would reopen in time for Sunday's Seahawks game in CenturyLink Field.
Some are calling the daily commute "Viadoom" because of congestion. The loss of the section of Highway 99 forces about 110,000 vehicles a day into alternate routes. Traffic was bad again Wednesday morning in the city because of a pedestrian fatality on downtown Interstate 5.
Workers are demolishing the southern mile of the viaduct as part of the $3.2 billion project to replace the elevated waterfront roadway with a tunnel under downtown Seattle.
