SEATTLE — Jermaine Magnuson, the widow of U.S. Sen. Warren Magnuson, has died at her Seattle home at the age of 87.
U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks announced the death Monday. Dicks worked on Sen. Magnuson's staff for eight years.
Mrs. Magnuson died Friday.
Her family says she married the powerful Washington state Democrat on Oct. 4, 1964, at a Washington, D.C., ceremony hosted by then-President Lyndon Johnson and his wife. The senator died in 1989.
In recent years, Jermaine Magnuson helped raise awareness and funding for diabetes research with Seattle's Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute. She was also involved with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
