Friday will bear the worst of the weekend weather, says KPLU weather expert Cliff Mass, but don’t expect sunshine on Father’s Day.
The rain returned on Friday with a “fairly good drenching” — “the first substantial rain” in nearly two weeks — and the clouds are expected to stick around for most of the weekend, Mass said.
Do Your Gardening On Saturday
Friday’s clouds and cool temperatures in the lower 60s will likely improve Saturday.
“The best day of the weekend should be Saturday,” said Mass, adding temperatures will stay cool, in the lower- to mid-60s. “And there could be a few showers, particularly on the western slopes of the Cascades and north Puget Sound, but nothing serious. So Saturday is the best day to get out and do things.”
Sunday: Sorry, Dads
Then things will take a turn come Sunday, said Mass.
“There will be rain on Sunday, it will be cloudy and temperatures will only get up into the low 60s. So Sunday is definitely going to be kind of a dreary, on-and-off rainy day,” he said.
If you have your heart set on having an outdoor barbecue for Father's Day, you might consider traveling to eastern Washington.
"I recommend that to all fathers. Cross over the Cascade crest, and it should be far drier and even sunnier there, with temperatures getting up into the 70s," said Mass.
What To Expect Next Week
Early next week won’t be much better, with “onshore flow, clouds and [temperatures in] the 60s,” said Mass.
“You know, not a great period, particularly compared to what we’ve had in the past week or two,” he said.
